Michael Sulyha updates us on the participation of our two PCSO-sponsored cancer survivor dragon boat teams Great Big C and We Beat U at the recent Ottawa Dragon Festival held 19-21 June 2026.
Despite some wet conditions, we had a pretty amazing weekend at this year's Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival!
Here is a short summary of how our two Cancer Survivor teams did...
- BOTH teams made it into the Charity Cup Challenge on the Friday evening, fundraising a combined grand total of $20,195.05 for the charities supported by the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation.
- Great Big C took home silver medals from the Open Charity Challenge and won back the All Cancer Paddlers Trophy for the third year in a row!
- We Beat U won their first gold medals in the 500m Mixed "J" Division and a team Trophy as well as a smaller team trophy for both 100m and 200m final races, placing 3rd and 2nd respectively.
- Saturday's Breast Cancer / All Cancer Paddlers Flower Ceremony was amazing with 6 teams this year all side by side on the water.
Next up will be August/September practices and the Carleton Place Dragon Boat festival on Saturday, September 12.
