ADT and Heart Disease
A recently published meta-analysis of nine cohort studies comprising of 190,000 patients with Prostate Cancer revealed that Prostate Cancer patients are at a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases. The analysis also revealed that there is a 30% increased risk for individuals taking Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) in the short term or long term.

Free Heart Screening Clinic
In response to this news, Prostate Cancer Support Ottawa have arranged with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute to hold one of their mobile Heart Screening Clinics exclusively for our group. This clinic will take place at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, located at 930 Watson Drive [MAP] on July 8th - July 10th, 2025.
This clinic is FREE and for anyone who is 65 years and older with no known heart disease or stroke. Please see the attached document. Those who participate will receive a mini ultrasound of the heart to check the valves, and a cardiovascular risk assessment including a finger poke to check for cholesterol and diabetes (if not recently completed). Results and recommendations will be shared at the end of the visit (about one hour).
