3rd Annual PCSO Curl For Hope Bonspiel
For the third year, another very successful PCSO Curl for Hope Bonspiel was held on Saturday, 29 November 2025, this time at the Carleton Place Curling Club. The Bonspiel raised a projected $15,600 for PCSO’s support and awareness activities, including donations towards prostate cancer research. Our congratulations and sincere thanks to PCSO Board of Directors member Hayden Brown for organizing this amazing fundraising event. Thank You Everyone for another successful Curl for Hope Bonspiel!
Well, it is over for another year. We did it! We had a very successful 3rd Annual Curl for Hope Bonspiel for Prostate Cancer Support Ottawa (PCSO). I continue to be amazed at the kindness and dedication Carleton Heights Curling Club has when they put their efforts to a good cause.
I hope you enjoyed your day of curling, camaraderie, and fundraising for PCSO. I did not curl this year, but from all the reports it seemed everyone was laughing and smiling during the entire day.
Special Thanks:
I need to start by thanking Carleton Place Curling Club (CPCC). Without their willingness to host this year’s event, due to the fire at CHCC, this year’s bonspiel would not have happened. To all the staff and volunteers at CPCC, thank you for making this bonspiel a success. Your facilities, ice tech, and the volunteer kitchen and cooking staff – you made this bonspiel a success. Thank you.
I can’t say it enough but THANK YOU to Judy Dimillo, Nancy Long, Angus MacLennan and the group of high school students who somehow Nancy was able to coerce into volunteering. From Judy’s donation of baking and the beautiful prostate cancer pins and all their tireless working from early morning to the last dish washed and put away following the banquet, I marvel at their commitment and energy for this event. Our club has a long history of hosting and raising money (over $640,000) for Breast Cancer. Judy and Nancy brought their expertise and passion for giving to the Curl for Hope bonspiel. Thank you very much!
I would also like to thank Ken Hollingshead for being our Draw Master and MC for the event as I was away. I have always marveled at this proficiency at macros and numbers in Excel to generate the scoring for this year’s bonspiel. I would be remiss if I also didn’t thank my old team, MEN IN HACK, Steven Cusimano, Michael Lynch, for assisting during the day, Thanks guys. Sorry you weren’t more successful on the ice!
Thanks to the other clubs who submitted teams, Rideau Club, RA Center, Manotick, and Carleton Place. I hope you had a great time. We welcome you back next year and,.... maybe in the future we can have a similar event at your club!
Thank you to the members of PCSO, Al Carl, and Doug Nugent for coming out and providing information about their organization. The work that PCSO does to help bring awareness, providing research funding, and supporting men and their families through their prostate cancer journey is extremely valuable. I am happy to have supported such a good cause.
Because we did not host the event at our club, we did not have many corporate sponsors, but a shout out to Kent Browne at Royal LePage Team Realty for kickstarting our donations early this summer.
Finally, thanks to the CHCC executive and ALL the club members of CHCC for getting behind this event for the third year to support it. There was just so much synergy and giving over the past few months which really shows that our little club has such a big heart.
Who Won?
Since we only had 14 teams this year we decided to combine the draws into on prize category. I would like to congratulate the winners at the event:
Draw A-B
| 1st Place | Draw a Blank (Emma Wallingford) | $300 |
| 2nd Place | Team Carroll (Mike Carroll) | $120 |
| Good Sportsmanship | Team Thompson (Adam Falardeau) | $40 |
Congratulations to those teams, but we ALL won. It was a fun day of curling.
Donations:
We can’t leave without talking about all the fundraising which was done for Prostate Cancer Support Ottawa. With last year’s event we raised over $15,580. It was a number well surpassing the expectations. This year we were hoping to do as well, if not a bit better. Once again, the numbers surprised us all. We are still going through the numbers, but as of today we have raised, on-line $15,481 and hope to add over the month of December. So, our grand total should be over $15,600! Thank you everyone. This is truly amazing. The CanadaHelps donations site will be active for last minute donations until December 30, 2025. Donation link is here:

Finally:
With the continued success of this event, I think it is safe to say we will be looking at running another bonspiel for PCSO next year. From the commitment to this event, we hope to try to grow this bonspiel across the Ottawa region! I want to thank the teams, volunteers, and the many donors for making this Third Annual Curl for Hope Bonspiel such a success. Thank you.
