Our Guest Speaker Dr. Mark Corkum

Portrait of Dr. Corkum

Dr. Corkum is well-known to our PCSO support group members, having spoken to us in the past on several of his special interests in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. His topic for this evening is the implementation of a breakthrough technology for precision radiation treatment at the Ottawa Hospital called MR-Linac. This is an all in-one apparatus that combines real-time magnetic resonance imaging with high precision stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) to treat prostate and other cancers. Several of our newest PCSO members have been or soon will be treated using this remarkable technology.
