With regret, we must announce that we will cease production and posting of our PCSO newsletter The Walnut. It has not been possible to engage a full-time volunteer editor for this key element of communicating with our membership and visitors to our website. Many thanks to our devoted Walnut readers over the years.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to PCSO Board member Chuck Graham for producing the year-end editions of The Walnut for 2022 and 2023. It’s a complex, time-consuming task which Chuck assumed on top of his own busy schedule, to produce excellent collections of articles and stories of PCSO activities.
Walnut issues typically contain.
- Recaps of PCSO meetings and events
- Announcements about upcoming meetings and events
- Health and nutrition news
- Survivor stories
- Updates on new, innovative prostate and recurrent cancer treatment
- Research and diagnostics
- Photos, funny moments…and anything else we can come up with!
The Walnut Archive
The Walnut - March, 2013
We acknowledge that everything in The Walnut, including our page 2 disclaimer, is fascinating reading. Still, we ask you to pay particular attention to the page 6 item about our co-chairs’ Back to Basics movement (though not to be confused with any of Beethoven’s movements).
The Walnut - February, 2013
Food, magical food, wonderful food, marvellous food, fabulous food…(from the musical “Oliver”)
Devour what you read, friends. For in this issue we are careful not to bite off more than we can chew. You’ll find sage advice – free as always – about nutrition plus more about exercise’s role.
Don’t let us catch you on the couch with a bag of chips!
The Walnut - January, 2013
Our beloved readers may have noticed our December issue came out askew.
Some pages were up; some were down. Not unlike days with prostate cancer, come to think of it.
It goes like that in the publishing business from time to time. So we humbly apologize for any dizziness December might have caused, with or without Christmas festivities.
We will do what we can to prevent this from happening again. In the meantime, all the best to our readers for a healthy and happy 2013!
The Walnut - December, 2012
This Walnutty issue has something for everyone, just as the season should.
From the sublime (low risk treatments and new therapies) to the ridiculous (a Dr. Ruth letter, and an elk with an itch), we always aim to do as biopsies do: make a point.
From the entire Walnut staff, a happy and safe Christmas and New Year to everyone. Even the nuts. Speaking of which, here’s this month’s burning question: Why do male elk have long antlers? See the photo on page 6 for the answer.
The Walnut - November, 2012
MOvember is upon us. So in this issue, we’ve “stached” interesting tidbits about bio-markers and survival data, plus a terrific summary of Dr. Morgan’s October talk.
And though we’re never ambiguous about much, our Ambiguities special on page 6 poses some of the great and deep questions of our time.
But you can’t get there without first paying for pages one to five.
