The Walnut

With regret, we must announce that we will cease production and posting of our PCSO newsletter The Walnut. It has not been possible to engage a full-time volunteer editor for this key element of communicating with our membership and visitors to our website. Many thanks to our devoted Walnut readers over the years.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to PCSO Board member Chuck Graham for producing the year-end editions of The Walnut for 2022 and 2023. It’s a complex, time-consuming task which Chuck assumed on top of his own busy schedule, to produce excellent collections of articles and stories of PCSO activities.

Walnut issues typically contain.

  • Recaps of PCSO meetings and events
  • Announcements about upcoming meetings and events
  • Health and nutrition news
  • Survivor stories
  • Updates on new, innovative prostate and recurrent cancer treatment
  • Research and diagnostics
  • Photos, funny moments…and anything else we can come up with!

Should men get their PSA checked?

Yes – No – Perhaps – Maybe – OK – Sometimes – and the debate rages on…see page 4.

Plus in this issue we learned Zytiga is now in, car shows aren’t much fun in the rain, and sometimes it’s fine not to take medication.

This special fall issue – free at newsstands from coast to coast.

The summer has not provided a respite from the duties of our group. The two summer meetings produced excellent open discussions on how to help the newly diagnosed.

Our chairman, for one, has actively lobbied for approval of Zytiga (page 5) and inquired about the Cancer Centre Fitness facility (page 6). Sadly though, we have lost some friends to this disease.

We slither into the heat with a potpourri of interesting events of the last few weeks.

Please check page 3 for the date of the August meeting since there is no August issue.

The editorial staff will use the time off to research proper uses of; the semi-colon and - hyphen.

Have a relaxing summer!

Highlights? Well, let’s see. We have Dr. Segal plus some members learning how to do robotic surgery (medical degree optional). A little more fuel on the fire that is the PSA controversy. The Alterna run looms and we need contributions. Something about pizza’s oregano being a cure. And all of this in our usual digestible six-page spread. Special this month: Free. Again.
